With motivation seriously lacking and inspiration notable in its absence a simple decision was made to go with a sunrise rather than a sunset.
This picture of the volcano Mount Merapi (Fire Mountain) was shot close to Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java, in February 2012. Merapi last erupted in late 2010, devastated the surrounding area by covering everything in a chocking ash that killed most of the jungle growth. A year and a half later, when this picture was taken there is no evidence of the disaster, a remarkable regrowth rate but more impressive is the astounding resilience of the local population who had to clean up after the television cameras left.
The picture was shot with a Canon PowerShot G12.
