A real benefit of living in a city like Berlin is that whenever one feels a little gloomy and needs a grunge photo fix then the nearest U-Bahn station will always give you what you want.
Not that there aren’t some beautiful underground stations in the city, but the combination of strip floro lighting with deep shadows that contrast brilliantly with the shiny metal gleam from the escalators and stairs provides the right high contrast elements to make great graphic pictures.
And because U-Bahn stations have contrast traffic, all you need to do to add the human element I feel mandatory in these sorts of images is wait for someone to move into the frame.
I was a bit lucky today, because after I took this shot the camera battery gave out and I didn’t have a spare with me, which didn’t improve my mood.
